Valentino Rossi’s Moto GP Prospects for the 2010 Season
The overwhelming dominance of Valentino Rossi strikes awe in the hearts of race fans. Since beginning his racing career in 1996, Rossi won nine world titles over 14 years. He is currently the reigning champion in World Grand Prix Motorcycle Championship series. According to Sports Illustrated Magazine, the famed Moto GP king earned $34 million dollars in 2007. Earnings for 2008 and 2009 are not available.
For the 2010 season, Rossi rides for the Fiat Yamaha team aboard the YZR-M1 series motorcycle. Fiat Yamaha is the official team for the Yamaha factory and enjoys full manufacturer support. The benefit of factory support is undeniable and insures access to the latest technological advances. Nevertheless, the best motorcycles require the talent of a great rider to win consistently.
When arriving at a track, official factory teams dominate the paddock. Truckloads of spare factory parts arrive. Crews assemble a seemingly endless array of tents for housing tools, parts, spare motorcycles and racing gear. Rental motorhomes are the preferred choice for providing riders with an escape from the crowds. In addition, a motorhome rental provides professional riders a place to recover in private that is beyond the prying eyes of competing teams. With these advantages, factory satellite teams and privateers seldom compete at the same level in the paddock.
Despite the dominance and advantages enjoyed by Rossi, factory satellite riders and privateers always provide stiff competition on the track. In Moto GP racing, split seconds determine the poll position for each race. At top speed, a few bike lengths are measured in one-thousandths of a second. The most successful privateers compete courageously on comparatively modest budgets. Recognizing privateer teams is easy. Privateer teams use smaller trucks and their rented motorhomes are equally modest. A privateer may have only one race bike rather than a primary motorcycle and two additional spares provided to factory team riders.
Valentino Rossi rose to prominence in Moto GP racing through hard work and dedication. All factory support and lavish surroundings aside, he became the most successful motorcycle racer in history by winning one race at a time. He gained initial experience in the 125cc class and won his first world championship in the bottom class. Over the years, he moved into the 250cc class and eventually the 500cc class to become the undisputed favorite in all Moto GP races. Today, Rossi’s prospects for retaining the 2010 World Grand Prix Motorcycle Championship remain unequalled by any other competitor.
